New Intern Tips: Top 5 Most Useful Czech Websites

So it's 2006 and a wave of new AIESEC trainees interns will soon be arriving. With that in mind, here's my Top 5 Most Useful Websites for Newcomers to Prague.
  1. Expats.cz. Get in the know! This website offers a treasure trove of information for expats in Prague. Whether you're trying to choose a bank, find a language exchange partner, or if you're just-trying-to-find-some-damn-peanut-butter-in-this-god-forsaken-city this website is for you. Check out the articles and forums for tonnes of useful info.
  2. Mapy.cz. Get oriented! Mapy.cz is a Czech website that offers a service similar to Google Maps. Here you can type in "Lidicka 37, Praha 5" and find out what amentities will be located within walking distance of your new home. Hint: it's a lot!
  3. Seznam Slovnik. Get language skills! Seznam Slovnik is one of several online Czech-English dictionaries. The suggested word feature on this website can save a lot of frustration.
  4. Ceske Drahy. Get out of Prague! When the sight of Prague Castle and Old Town Square starts getting old, it's time to start exploring the rest of the Czech Republic. Check out the national train system's website for fare and timetable info.
  5. Yahoo Groups. Get connected! This is perhaps the most important website on this list. Join the Praha_Trainees group at Yahoo Groups to ensure that you don't miss the party coming up on Friday night!

I'd also suggest prague.tv which has a complete and up-to-date cinema listing and a good list of vegetarian restaurants which cost less than 120 Kc per head...

Oh, and Andel blog of course, but I assume if you are reading this you already know this is the most important website you should know:)

A good suggestion for all those who aren't spoilt Andel kids living near the centre (i'm just bitter as i live in Suchdol- otherwise known as the back of beyond!) is www.vlak-bus.cz - it truly is the way forwrd - all the travel info you could ever want.

1. Dobře
2. Yeah, it works. But I'd suggest
http://mapy.atlas.cz
as a replacement. I find the user interface is a little more friendly.
3. Another one is http://www.slovnik.cz/
4. I'd recommend going straight to
http://www.idos.cz/
instead. It uses the same engine, but can display bus times too. And the damn window is resizeable. :-p
5. Dobře
